About the role

We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Senior Lawyer to join the Benevolent in-house legal team. The initial focus of this role will be on redress and claims and mitigating risk in the management of disputes and litigation. In addition to handling litigation, you will have the opportunity to engage in non-litigious legal work, providing you with an opportunity to develop a varied in-house skill set within a collaborative legal team environment. It is desirable you are confident in navigating the child protection system in NSW.

Duties

As a valued member of the Legal & Corporate Governance team, you will:

  • Use your leadership skills to support Benevolent to resolve disputes in alignment with our organisational values and in a way that upholds our organisational integrity.
  • Work closely with a network of internal and external stakeholders, including external law firms.
  • Provide timely legal advice to Benevolent on complex legal risks and issues.
  • Assist in responding to orders, notices, summonses and subpoenas served on Benevolent.
  • Be familiar with the New South Wales Court system and have child protection experience.

Skills and Requirements

  • A valid legal practicing certificate.
  • At least 6 years of post-admission experience.
  • Strong knowledge of NSW Court system and child protection laws.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented style of work and an ability to of prioritise, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
