A New Opportunity

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Lead Practitioner will contribute to the creation, design, and implementation of a portfolio of projects focused on implementing evidence-based practice in frontline services for First Nations peoples. This will include embedding common practice frameworks, supervision approaches and a client safe organisation within our professional governance framework.

The Role

  • Develop, implement and regularly review a variety of practice frameworks. Ensure that our work is culturally safe and provides effective responses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, families, and communities.
  • Develop resources informed by best practice approaches in person-centred practices, knowledge translation, and implementation of cultural practice.
  • Design and deliver innovative practices that enhance quality practice standards for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of competency requirements for staff to deliver quality, seamless service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Purposely analyse numerical data, verbal data, and all other sources of information to drive practice improvement.
  • Promote and share best practice and service improvements across the organisation, participating in learning opportunities and practice workshops.

About You

  • This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. All applicants must be of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage.
  • The Benevolent Society considers that being Aboriginal Identified is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW) and that the appointment of the Lead Practitioner - Aboriginal Identified position is a special measure pursuant to section 8 of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) to make the delivery of The Benevolent Society's services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people more effective.
  • An understanding of ability to work with practice frameworks that best serve the needs of aboriginal communities, and are sensitive to those communities’ needs.
  • Tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work or other health related degree OR relevant experience.
  • Minimum 5 years practice experience in providing high level practice guidance, support and/or coaching,
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of evidence based clinical and practice frameworks that apply to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
  • Ability to translate research and sector developments into practice.
  • Strong project management experience and organisational skills alongside your clinical and practice knowledge.
