Lead the delivery and implementation of the Leadership Development Program (LDP) in South Australia, and contribute to the strategic direction and growth of the program in SA.

Coach and develop Associates to be effective teachers and leaders in line with the LDP. Working with the national LDP frameworks, the role also can be expected to design and deliver professional learning that addresses the needs of the Associates’ development. Finally, the Teaching & Leadership Coach is required to build new relationships and strengthen current relationships with diverse constituents, both internally and externally, contributing to a cohesive community that is connected to the greater movement for education equity.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • A recognised teaching qualification
  • At least two years of relevant teaching experience
  • Experience in coaching others to success
  • Familiarity with adult learning theory and experience facilitating professional learning workshops for a group
  • Full driver’s license and willingness to travel as required to fulfil the duties of the role (which may include overnight and/or extended trips)
  • Strong ability to translate conceptual information into operational plans, policies and procedures, including ability to think laterally and creatively to solve problems
  • Strong leadership orientation - proactive, self-starting, takes initiative and is a team player with the ability to independently deliver quality output within set timelines
  • Current Working with Children Check

Desirable:

  • Minimum of 3 years of program management experience with proven planning, delivery, quality assurance and time management skills and leading and empowering a team to own and deliver on identified goals and priorities
  • Experience in teaching in disadvantaged secondary school settings
  • Current teacher registration
  • Current Mental Health First Aid Certificate
  • Previous experience and/or exposure to the Teach For Australia program or affiliated Teach For All programs

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with school principals, school-based staff, and other leaders across the education sector including within the state government

  • Presence and influencing ability, exceptional people skills
  • Exceptional time management and planning skills
  • Ability to track, monitor and regularly report on targets and state level priorities

  • Knowledgeable and skilled at delivering professional learning
  • Ability to apply knowledge of teaching and learning to prioritise and then address an early career teacher’s needs, in order to improve student learning
  • Ability to manage expenditure and travel arrangements in line with budgets

Desirable:

  • Solid understanding of leadership development
  • Highly skilled at instructional coaching and leadership
  • Coaching skills for online or dual platform delivery
  • Knowledgeable and skilled at delivering professional development
  • Experience using Salesforce or other case management databases
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams

Primary Accountabilities

Strategic leadership and growth:

  • Contribute on-the-ground knowledge and experience to setting the strategic direction for the LDP in SA, working closely with the State Manager – Tas & SA and Government Relations team to identify the key priorities for growth and relationship development in SA.
  • Support Government Relations with the management of the SA contract, including supporting with cultivating key supporters and stakeholders in SA.
  • Contribute to government reporting obligations, under the guidance of Government Relations.

Relationship Management:

  • Collaborate with the national TLC team to share best practices and lessons learned locally and nationally
  • Represent TFA at the school level and work with school leadership to ensure placement conditions in schools meet minimum expectations in alignment with the school partnership agreement
  • Liaise with School Instructional Coaches (previously named School Mentors) and Academic Mentors to provide cohesive, holistic support for Associates.
  • Hold the operational relationship with the Department for Education, to facilitate the smooth coordination of effort to deliver and ensure success of the LDP in SA.

School Placement:

  • Build positive relationships with principals to form strategic partnerships with schools in support of shared impact objectives.
  • Work closely with School Partnerships and Placement (SP&P) to generate school demand and maintain positive partnerships with schools, supporting the achievement of state priorities and aspirations.
  • Represent TFA at the school level and to work with school leadership to ensure placement conditions in schools meet minimum expectations throughout the program as per school agreement and where required, escalate to the State Manager – Tas & SA to resolve any issues or concerns.
  • Using knowledge of schools and context, make matches between Incoming Associates and positions.
  • Collaborate with the Department for Education team to facilitate the onboarding of Associates, coordinating with SP&P for administrative support.

Case and Risk Management:

  • Actively maintain case records and risk management records on Salesforce
  • Manage risks according to, and in line with, TFA policies and procedures

Coach and Develop Associates to be Effective Teachers and Leaders:

  • In line with the national coaching framework and the national coaching plan for the year (“TLC national year overview”), coach and develop Associates to successfully achieve the Leadership Development Program’s outcomes, including working towards increased proficiency in their classrooms
  • Working with their Academic Mentor and School Instructional Coach, support Associates to successfully achieve Master of Teaching (Secondary) (Leading Learning) outcomes
  • Summarise progress towards outcomes, which support continuous improvement and quality assurance
  • Support Associates to prepare for and understand the context of their placement school and surrounding community

Design and Deliver Regional Professional Development:

  • With the support of LDD and the national TLC team, plan, design and implement professional learning for Associates held during the school holiday period (January and July)
  • Plan, design and implementation of community building activities and events held each term for Associates

Secondary Accountabilities

  • Under the guidance of the State Manager – Tas & SA collaborate cross functionally with other teams
  • Support implementation of National Initial Intensive in November-December, including delivery of online workshops and/or supporting the school practicum
  • Support the Admissions Team in selecting incoming Associates
