TeamHEALTH has become the leading not for profit provider of mental health services in the Top End of the Northern Territory. TeamHEALTH has provided outreach services, support and advocacy for Territorians with mental illness for over 30 years.

The Big Rivers Children and Family Intensive Support Program delivers early intervention, risk assessment, risk minimisation and relapse prevention approaches to support families, strengthen relationships, improve the wellbeing of children and young people and increase participation of people in community life to enhance family and community functioning.

Working in partnership with Kalano, the Senior Child and Family Wellbeing Practitioner will deliver a co-designed early intervention program for at-risk Children and families, activities will integrate with other programs, supporting stronger outcomes for children and families.

This program will support:

  • At risk children to be successful at school.
  • Mentoring for at risk young people to explore local career options and support wellbeing.
  • Katherine based outreach support for Barunga, Beswick and Mataranka to meet their most pressing needs.

The Senior Child and Family Wellbeing Practitioner will assist in establishing good referral pathways, into and out of the service in order to reach vulnerable children, young people and families who may not otherwise engage with the mental health or children’s service sector.

Possessing qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or less formal qualifications with substantial experience in a related area, the successful applicant will have cultural competency in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families in the application of strength based approaches, conducting risk and needs assessments and implementing action plans.

This position is a fixed term contract up to 30 June 2026 and is open to applicants interested in full or part time hours. Applicants interested in a drive in drive out to Katherine are also encouraged to express their interest.

The successful applicant will be required to have a current National Police Certificate, Working with Children Clearance, NT Driver’s Licence and completed the NDIS Worker Orientation Module.
