The Opportunity

Here at Telethon Kids, our passionate finance team are a pivotal part of the organisation and work closely with our researchers and professional services teams to provide strategic and operational financial support with budgets, planning and analysis enabling us to achieve our mission, to improve the health and well-being of children through excellence in research.

Come and join our finance team as our new Finance Business Partner. Reporting to the Research Finance Manager, you will be both collaborative and customer service focused to deliver on their financial needs.

You will be responsible for providing accurate and timely strategic and operational financial support, enabling more effective, sustainable, and informed decisions. In a consultative approach, you will partner with our stakeholders as you educate people in best practise financial management whilst providing recommendations and advice on financial issues in line with Telethon Kids’ priorities.

No two days will be the same in this varied role but typically your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Provide financial advice and modelling for the development of business cases, grant applications, contract tenders, and commercialisation opportunities.
  • Administer the financial aspects of research funding agreements, and guide stakeholders through the related financial processes and implications.
  • Oversee the project accounting function, including accrual accounting in line with the relevant standards, cost centre management, and supervision of junior finance staff.
  • Partner with stakeholders to ensure reporting requirements are met including the preparation and completion of financial acquittals and other financial reporting to funding organisations.

This role will be based at Perth Children's Hospital and can be offered either as a part-time (0.8FTE) or full-time role.

About You

The ideal applicant will be an enthusiastic finance professional, who thrives under pressure whilst handling competing priorities. The key to your success will be your demonstrated experience in cultivating meaningful relationships based on trust, along with;

  • A Tertiary qualification in Commerce or Business and a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand; CPA Australia; or working towards membership.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in a financial, management or project accounting role.
  • Knowledge of best practice business management, financial reporting and accounting principles to support strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Experience in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships with stakeholders and maintain them over time.
