Tenants Victoria is on a mission to ensure safe, secure, and affordable homes for Victorian renters in a fair housing system. We need a dynamic and experienced Chair to lead the way. After eight years of dedicated board service, including six as Chair during a period of significant change, our current Chair is retiring. We are seeking an experienced leader to guide the organisation in addressing the needs of renters in a housing system that requires major reform.

Your Role:

As Chair of Tenants Victoria, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our strategic direction and ensuring the ongoing success and sustainability of our organisation. Working closely with our skilled and dedicated directors and CEO, you will provide oversight and leadership to guide our governance and strategic initiatives. Your mission? To expand our reach, enhance our impact, and drive positive change for the renters of Victoria. A priority will be to use the opportunities ahead to maximise our impact.

About The Organisation

Tenants Victoria is the peak body for renters in our state and serves as Victoria’s leading specialist tenancy community legal centre. We are a respected and influential advocate for social change, working to improve conditions for people who rent their homes and experience hardship and or disadvantage.

We believe that safe, secure, and affordable housing is an essential service and human right. Through our advice and information line, legal casework, law reform work, training, and community outreach activities, we support individual renters and community organisations. We also campaign for policy, procedural, and legislative change. Amid a rental crisis, this is a significant time to join our dynamic team and help support Victorian renters facing housing challenges across the breadth of our state.

Selection Criteria

We're seeking an experienced governance professional with a proven track record of leadership in a not-for-profit /legal/community service organisation. Experience in the housing sector or strong networks in government would be a valuable asset.

Selection Criteria Include:

• Previous experience as Chair of Board or Committee of Management (or similar) with relevant governance qualifications
• Strategic thinking and capability
• Ability to support the CEO to advance the strategic vision
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and form strong, trusted relationships
• Time and capacity to undertake the role
