The Organisation

Tenants Victoria is the peak body for renters in our state and serves as Victoria’s leading specialist tenancy community legal centre. We are a respected and influential advocate for social change, working to improve conditions for people who rent their homes and experience hardship and or disadvantage.

We believe that safe, secure, and affordable housing is an essential service and human right. Through our advice and information line, legal casework, law reform work, training, and community outreach activities, we support individual renters and community organisations. We also campaign for policy, procedural, and legislative change. Amid a rental crisis, this is a significant time to join our dynamic team and help support Victorian renters facing housing challenges across the breadth of our state.

The Role

The communications co-ordinator is an integral part of the communications team, supporting our vision for safe, secure and affordable housing for renters. You will be responsible for helping to develop and implement the organisation’s communication strategies.

Additionally, you will:

• Develop a wide range of internal and external communications collateral (including newsletters, web content, brochures, fact sheets, social media, creative copy, case studies, media releases, presentations, briefing notes).
• Plan, create, update and publish content across our social media platforms to engage audiences.
• Design and upload informative content to our website.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
• Project manage key communication outputs with external consultants when they arise.
• Design materials for upcoming events.
• Use email and SMS tools to inform, engage and promote Tenants Victoria’s work in the community.
• Analyse and report on all digital communications work in a way that allows us to measure performance and make improvements over time.

Skills & Experience Required

You have demonstrated experience in communications role with a relevant qualification in communications, or equivalent.

Specific skills include:

• Experience in managing social media platforms.
• Excellent writing and editing skills.
• Skilled in publishing content to websites and monitoring impact.
• Sound graphic design skills to develop engaging content for a range of uses.
• Competent with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Publisher).
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to think outside the square and generate ideas.
• A commitment to Tenants Victoria’s strategy, vision and values, and an interest in social justice and housing issues.
