About the School

The Avenue School is a small, Independent Senior Secondary Specialist School commencing operations in January 2025. The School, located in Ferntree Gully, has been established to provide an alternative education for young people who have an experience of anxiety disorders and who have found attending school to be challenging.

The Avenue School will deliver the Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) in an environment of small classes and high levels of support.

About the Role

The Principal will lead an inclusive school dedicated to supporting students in accessing secondary school education pathways. The Principal provides caring and dynamic leadership of The Avenue School and is responsible for the administration, educational leadership, and overall operation of the school. The role fosters a thriving school culture in alignment with the school’s vision, mission and strategic direction, ensuring development of both students and staff. The Principal will report to the School Board and work collaboratively with staff, parents and the community.

The role is a permanent part-time position, which includes a mix of leadership and classroom duties.

  • Ensuring excellence in teaching practice to enhance student learning.
  • Effectively manage the operations of the School in line with the framework set by the Board.
  • Provide an environment for students that ensures their physical and psychological safety.
  • Build a positive reputation within the School and wider community through collaboration and communication.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A formal secondary teaching qualification (Degree and Postgraduate Qualification in Education or equivalent).
  • High-level administrative/business management experience.
  • Relevant experience in alternative education pathways is an advantage.
  • Relevant experience leading and implementing innovative teaching practice and learning design.
  • Current VIT Registration.
  • Two Referees.
