The Sax Institute has an international reputation as an Evidence Specialist, and nearly 20 years’ experience in translating research findings into policy drawing on our own expertise as well as that of our more than 50 member organisations. We work with governments, health organisations, research organisations and a network of experts nationwide to analyse policy problems and find the best evidence-based solutions.

Sitting within the Evidence for Action Division, our Decision Analytics team uses advanced dynamic simulation modelling methods as well as research and visualisation technologies to develop timely, accessible decision support tools for policy and practice.

About the role

A great opportunity exists for an experienced manager to step into this up to 12 month maternity leave cover position. This role will see you leading a high performing team with expertise in dynamic simulation modelling and in engagement with policy and program organisations. You will be responsible for the development and implementation of the DA strategy while working closely with government and non-government organisations to assist them to scope out their requirements that can be addressed through the use of dynamic simulation modelling.

Although no two days will be the same, responsibilities will include:

  • Further developing and implementing the strategic plan for Decision Analytics
  • Establishing and maintaining systems and processes for managing the activities of the program
  • Managing and supporting Decision Analytics staff to ensure that professional development, reporting, budgeting and delivery of services as per annual plan happen effectively
  • Engaging with policy agencies, program planners, and research institutions to foster relationships and attract opportunities for commissioned work or collaborative research relevant to the program
  • Representing the Sax Institute through presenting findings from the program of research
  • Supervising and contract personnel as required across the agreed work plan.

About you – Selection Criteria

We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated leader who has the following experience and current skill set:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in leading, or contributing substantially to, dynamic simulation modelling projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative research environment with diverse stakeholders
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the field of public health and health care in Australia
  • Successful project management experience, including delivering projects on time
  • Ability to take on a leadership role in the development and implementation of projects
