TTAC is a quickly growing and evolving organisation supporting the self determination of Kiwirrkurra People, based on-country in Kiwirrkurra Community, one of Australia’s remotest Aboriginal communities. TTAC’s operations focus on 5 areas – land, cultural heritage, rangers, community / social and economic development and having a good organisation.

Kiwirrkurra People and TTAC are experiencing a massive period of change, with increased exploration interest, the progression of mining projects towards FID and production, significant organisational changes and as well as broader societal and community changes. TTAC is trying to positively influence outcomes for Kiwirrkurra People through these changes.

Working with TTAC offers an experience of the world different to mainstream environments through being in the beautiful, vibrant, living desert and providing a meaningful opportunity to support and work with Kiwirrkurra People to pursue self-determination and their version of a good life.

About the role

The Cultural Heritage Operations Coordinator supports Kiwirrkurra People to maintain their culture and cultural heritage through:

  1. with the Heritage Services Manager, Aboriginal Liaison Officer and Kiwirrkurra People, coordinate and project manage the implementation of the Cultural Heritage Protection Protocol for mining, exploration and others' on-country activities.
  2. coordinate delivery of cultural education training activities
  3. support Kiwirrkurra People to maintain their cultural knowledge and heritage through self-instigated projects
  4. work safely and ensure safe work practices are followed
  5. support the implementation of land access agreements
  6. And as is required in a complex, dynamic environment, take on other tasks and duties as asked.

The role will spend significant amounts of time in the office in Kiwirrkurra Community and on country.

The ideal candidate would have a deep respect for differing cultural perspectives and be respectful of differing life experiences and circumstances. You will need to have a sense of adventure, openness to new experiences and be comfortable with your worldview being challenged. The successful candidate will be provided an opportunity to develop significant, meaningful relationships with Kiwirrkurra People.

The role requires a person who is adaptable, comfortable working in a dynamic environment and willing to work through complex issues with patience, care and good communication. Successful workers in remote contexts have substantial levels of resilience and the ability to self-manage their emotional and physical health in high pressure and stressful environments. You need a collaborative attitude, strong interpersonal skills, and able to establish relationships across different cultural perspectives, professional contexts and capabilities. The role requires someone who is effective at managing their time across multiple tasks, a strong understanding of their current abilities and a desire to learn and grow in a professional and personal space.

This role will suit a recent graduate or someone early in their career, who is happy to spend significant amounts of time in a remote location and wants to take on the challenge of working in an extraordinarily complex environment. If you are interested but have considerable experience, there is the opportunity for the role to have additional responsibilities.

Tjamu Tjamu PBC bases operations in Kiwirrkurra Community and this role is required to spend significant time in Kiwrrkurra Community / on country. A candidate whose's intention is to spend most of their time in Kiwirrkurra will be viewed favourably.
