Transcend Australia is a small but mighty organisation that exists to support transgender, gender diverse and non-binary (TGDNB) children, youth, their families and community to have access to information and gender affirming support so that TGDNB people thrive and flourish.

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to volunteer and lead our Board of Directors as Chairperson. As Chairperson, you will have an instrumental role in driving Transcend Australia’s strategy and the achievement of organisational objectives.
You will have a key role in working with the CEO to engage with stakeholders and promote the public profile of Transcend Australia. You will bring:
- Strong alignment with Transcend Australia’s values of Justice, Truth, Collaboration, Kindness and Accountability.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance principles and best practices - governance credentials (e.g. AICD course) and/or at least two year’s past experience on public, private or community Boards is desirable
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders
- High level conceptual and strategic thinking skills
- Financial literacy
- An understanding of the NFP, health/community services sector governance
- Ability to work collaboratively/challenge constructively
- Ideally lived experience as a TGDNB person.
You will be responsible for:
- Providing leadership and guidance to the board members to promote a collaborative and effective working relationship
- Chairing board meetings, ensuring agendas are set, and overseeing the smooth running of meetings
- Collaborating with the CEO and board members to assess and establish strategic goals and objectives for the organisation
- Ensuring the board functions within its legal and ethical responsibilities, following best practices and corporate governance principles
- Overseeing the recruitment, orientation, and training of new board members to ensure a diverse and skilled board
- Fostering strong relationships with external stakeholders, such as government officials, community leaders, and potential partners
- Meeting regularly with the CEO to provide support, feedback and advice without interfering with day-to-day operations
- Acting as the point of contact between the Board and CEO, with the CEO as the interface between Board and management and staff of Transcend Australia
