The Salvation Homelessness Melbourne Metro is a large Homelessness provider in the inner city of Melbourne and provides a comprehensive range of residential & community services across six sites in St Kilda, Footscray, North Melbourne, West Melbourne and Kensington.

Community programs include the Crisis Contact Centre, Community Outreach Services for single adults, support for older people in public housing, rough sleeper & street sleeping initiatives, community participation and AOD support.

Residential services operate from Foley House in Footscray, the Open Door in North Melbourne and Flagstaff in West Melbourne.

About the role

We are seeking a proactive Cleaner to provide a high-quality standard of cleaning and waste management at the West Melbourne (Flagstaff) and North Melbourne (Open Door) sites within Homelessness Services in Melbourne Metro. The position is part of a trans-disciplinary team that works closely with the Residential Community Support, Catering, Business Administration and Case Management Services.

You will successfully

  • Ensure a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene across the residential accommodation and staff office areas, and in outdoor environments including the entrance to buildings and garden settings
  • Complete cleaning in a timely and efficient manner in adherence with established cleaning schedules
  • Respond to any emergency cleaning situations
  • Undertake daily housekeeping to ensure residents receive necessities such as linen and cleaning aids
  • Ensure chemicals and other domestic products are stored safely and securely to meet the relevant MSDS guidelines
  • Report workplace hazards, near misses and OHS incidents to the Facilities maintenance Team Leader and complete Safety Incidents reports as required
  • Work with the Community Support Team to assist with Resident luggage storage systems at Flagstaff and The Open-Door residential sites

This is a permanent full-time position, based at our Flagstaff Services. Part of this position will require you to travel to The Open Door North Melbourne as needed. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award/General Retail Industry Award/Clerks Private Sector Award, Level 1.3.

You will have

  • Relevant cleaning experience preferably in the Community Sector, supported by a Certificate 3 in Cleaning Operations
  • Friendly, positive outlook and customer service attitude, with the physical ability to undertake cleaning duties
  • Understanding of manual handling, hygiene standards & OHS regulations
  • Knowledge of safety storing and handling potentially dangerous chemicals
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision as well as collaboratively as part of cleaning services team
