The role you could play

We are seeking a dedicated Community Support worker after hours! You will welcome clients into a community of support characterised by genuine acceptance, compassion and care. You will ensure the immediate needs of clients are met and provide an experience of home by providing activities and support for residents strengthening capacity for meaningful engagement, increasing independent living skills, participation and social cooperation. This role will also help foster a culture of service delivery that is Client Centred, Strengths Based and Trauma Informed.

Duties

  • Individual supports alongside group recreational and health and wellbeing activities are provided to clients across the facilities. Support residents to develop and maintain functional skills, including social and domestic care, recreation and other skills required for independent living
  • Develop and facilitate a range of group activities to meet the social support, recreation, education, and health needs of residents and facilitate access to specialist support services, including health, mental health, AOD and therapeutic interventions both within The Salvation Army and through external services
  • Works collaboratively with the casework team, specialist services and co-located external providers, building a supportive and engaging community environment
  • Appropriate records of attendance and outcomes are recorded, in addition to case notes and other documentation and/or reporting required
  • Identify and use appropriate strategies to deal with challenging or high-risk situations
  • Risks to clients, staff and TSA are identified and managed, and outcomes reported to TSA management with incidents managed in accordance with TSA / Government processes
  • Contribute to the overall functioning of the facility by taking part in a range of rostered and other unscheduled activities, including responsive cleaning or as directed
  • Build a strong culture in the team based on mutual respect and collaboration

This is a casual position for up to 38 hours per week, based in West Melbourne VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 4 Award.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, community services or related field
  • Experience and knowledge of housing and homelessness sector (desirable)
  • A National Criminal History Check and Working With Children Check is required
  • Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date
