Why the role matters

The Salvation Army Australia's Homelessness Stream provides high-quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.

St Kilda Crisis Centre offers a twenty-four hour, state-wide crisis response to people at risk of and experiencing primary homelessness. Assistance may include financial assistance for emergency housing, food vouchers, material aid, information, advocacy, and planning, as well as referral to specialist supports in relation to housing, family violence, alcohol and other drug use and mental health.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Crisis Support Worker for the St Kilda Crisis Centre.Reporting to the Service Coordinator, this is a permanent, part-time position (4 shifts per week, average 26 hours) based in St Kilda, VIC.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 5.

You will successfully

  • Ensure the Initial Assessment and planning experience is welcoming, safe, and responsive to individual needs & risks.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders promptly and professionally.
  • Conduct client assessments within a crisis intervention framework.
  • Develop links with other network and community services to assist clients to access resources and community supports.
  • Support and de-brief other team members who are faced with difficult and challenging situations.

You will have

  • A Social Work qualification (preferred) or a degree qualification in psychology, mental health, or related discipline.
  • Minimum Diploma qualification in Community Services, AOD, mental health, or related discipline.
  • A current Victorian paid Working with Children Check.
  • A valid Victorian Driver License.
  • Resilience, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Creative outcome focused attitude.
  • The ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Advanced communication, written & organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage crisis situations.
  • Initiative to solve service delivery challenges.
