About the Role:

We are seeking a Safeguarding Consultant Salvation Army International (SAID).

Location: Open to all locations for a Part-time ( 2 days a week) opportunity.

Purpose of the Role:

To provide high level international safeguarding advise and expertise to Salvation Army International Development (SAID) to ensure the safety of children and adults at risk connected with our international projects worldwide.

The Safeguarding Consultant - SAID will be responsible for managing, recording and reviewing all the Safeguarding cases within the Salvation Army International Development department. This includes providing advice and coaching regarding the management of new and ongoing matters of concerning behaviours and allegations to ensure The Salvation Army meets its legislative, compliance and reporting requirements for safeguarding.

The Safeguarding Consultant will provide safeguarding advice and support, including project risk assessment review, to the Salvation Army International Development (SAID) team as required. This includes representing SAID/safeguarding at Practice Advisory Group (PAG) meetings as scheduled.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

International Development - Safeguarding Risk Management

  • Provide specialist safeguarding advice to SAID leaders and others regarding safeguarding risks to children and adults
  • Ensure development project proposals include and mitigate child protection risks
  • Ensure all complaints and incidents are documented, reported and managed according to TSAs policies and procedures, legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Review safety management plans in line with TSA policy and procedures and the international context
  • Ensure all Case Management notes, and records of communication are documented, stored, and managed appropriately.
  • Support SAID improve practice and maintain DFAT accreditation
  • Provide monthly reports to the GM Safeguarding and Head of Quality and Safeguarding with recommendations for managing reviewed cases.
  • Undertake professional supervision as required.
  • Liaise with the International Director for Child Protection as required.
  • Provide support to Salvation Army International Development (SAID) with respect to risk assessment.
  • Provide safeguarding advice to the Salvation Army International Development (SAID) team.

Training

  • Develop and deliver safeguarding training to SAID personnel
  • Develop safeguarding tools that are appropriate within the international context
  • Provide expert international development safeguarding advice to the SAID.

Fact Finding

  • Undertake fact-finding as required for allegations related to concerning behaviour, misconduct and reportable conduct.
  • Ensure all concerns related to reportable conduct are managed in line with the requirements for reporting.

Team Support

  • Participate in team activities, attend meetings, and demonstrate a supportive approach to staff members which contributes to their overall development, wellbeing, and team effectiveness.
  • Actively participate and regularly attend Case Management Meetings.

Education and Qualifications Required:

  • Previous experience in assessing complex safeguarding risks and child protection practice.
  • Previous experience working in International Development
  • Previous practice leader experience including delivery of Professional Supervision and Group Reflective Practice.
  • Previous experience managing organisational change.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a confidential, sensitive, and professional manner.
  • Solid level of computer literacy in MS Office.
  • Degree qualification in Social Work or similar.

Requirements of the role:

  • A National Criminal History Check is required
  • Working with children's check
