Forest Campaigner - Northern Jarrah Forests

The Wilderness Society

The Wilderness Society is the independent voice for nature across Australia, committed to defending unique wildlife and ecosystems from destruction.

Come and be part of a team that’s proud to work for the organisation that’s secured some of the biggest wins for Australian wilderness and nature: stopping the damming of the Franklin River forty years ago, protecting Walmadany / James Price Point in the Kimberley from a ginormous gas hub, or defending special forests the length and breadth of this continent.

About the role:

The Forest Campaigner is part of a highly dedicated and collaborative organisation focused on the long term protection, promotion and restoration of nature and wilderness.

The Wilderness Society has a solid track record of protecting some of Western Australia’s special land and sea Country. Now, we’re seeking a Campaigner who can identify and implement powerful pathways for the community to exert pressure on governments and corporations to deliver change and for nature: the life that supports us all.

In doing this work, you’ll bring a commitment to supporting dialogue with First Nations Peoples for all aspects of our campaigns.

You have experience working with people across diverse communities and environmental groups. You’re able to communicate campaign goals and objectives— through the media, with the community, and into government and business. You’re curious about the science, legal avenues and committed to being part of a team that takes pride in collaboration and healthy culture.

How Wilderness Society supports our staff:

You’ll be doing meaningful and important work with one of Australia’s successful nature conservation organisations.

Our approach to diversity is simple—it’s about embracing everyone. From building a culture where all employees can bring their best selves to work to deploying initiatives that support the different needs of our staff, we’re doing what we can to build an inclusive world for all.

We are a supportive and inclusive workplace with excellent conditions, including:

  • Five weeks of annual leave per year

  • 15 days personal leave

  • 3 additional leave days at end of year

  • Floating public holidays

  • Genuine flexibility in working hours and location with financial support for office and/or remote working

  • Generous Paid parental leave (subject to eligibility conditions)

  • Commitment to supporting your professional development

  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program

  • Regular 1:1 meetings for coaching and management support

  • Performance conversations for reflections and growth

  • When you start, a co-developed initial 3 month work plan

Please apply if you:

  • You can identify and pick up campaign opportunities

  • Have a can-do attitude, with the ability to learn new skills and adapt to new contexts quickly

  • Are comfortable working to rapid response timelines

  • Are eager to grow your skills, experience and the organisation’s impact

  • Are able to give and apply feedback

  • Bring a dedication to transforming Australia into a society that protects, respects and connects with the natural world that sustains us
