Senior Campaigner

Unharm
  • Promote health and justice through drug policy reform and changing the public conversation about drugs.
  • Run campaigns on issues like getting life-saving pill testing services started, and to stopping 70,000+ cannabis arrests across Australia each year.
  • Flexible and supportive conditions in a small, dedicated team.

ABOUT UNHARM

Unharm is a groundbreaking advocacy organisation working exclusively on drug policy reform and shifting the public conversation about drugs. Our mission is to reduce harm and promote health and justice through strategic campaigns, with a focus on elevating under-represented voices.

With a small team and budget, we’ve proven our ability to build powerful coalitions and run campaigns that change public perceptions and government policy.

Unharm has been pivotal in getting life saving pill testing services started in Victoria and Queensland. Right now we’re working on getting these services started in NSW as well. This year we played a crucial role in pushing the NSW Premier to follow through on a commitment to hold a major Drug Summit in December. We have also led the adoption of progressive drug policies by key MPs and amplified lived experience and First Nations voices for reform.

ABOUT YOU

We’re looking for a Senior Campaigner to join our team. This role reports directly to the CEO, Dr Will Tregoning.

For this role, you will need:

  • At least three years of relevant professional experience.
  • A track record of positive impact on progressive political campaigns and advocacy.
  • Experience and capability in strategic thinking including situational analysis and tactics.
  • A commitment to engaging and mobilising members of the public.
  • A demonstrated ability to manage multiple work streams and competing priorities and take initiative to get the job done.
  • A demonstrated capacity for clear and engaging written communication, including the ability to adapt communication styles for different audiences.
  • A demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders including people who use drugs and First Nations people and organisations.
  • A commitment to social justice and wellbeing.
  • To be reflective and growth-oriented, and able to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Strong digital skills and a willingness to learn new platforms and technologies.

It would be a bonus if you have:

  • Experience with and understanding of drug policy and issues, or a related field like health and justice.
  • Experience creating video content across different channels.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We will adapt the role to the right candidate, but we would like you to be able to do some or all of these:

  • Developing campaign strategy and planning implementation
  • Writing campaign content
  • Reviewing performance of campaign content
  • Coordinating media engagement and monitoring media reporting on relevant issues
  • Coordinating offline work (e.g., stunts)
  • Managing online fundraising, including writing fundraising campaign copy.
  • Contributing to campaign research
  • Supporting stakeholder engagement
  • Supervising staff as required
  • Supporting role as media spokesperson

The role is based in Sydney and includes a combination of working from home and working from a shared office space. The role will also involve attending meetings at various locations around Sydney, especially the NSW Parliament.
