StandBy is Australia’s leading suicide postvention program dedicated to assisting people and communities bereaved or impacted by suicide.

StandBy builds community preparedness and resilience through extensive training to community and professional groups to ensure effectiveness and that duplicated effort is avoided. The program offers coordinated evidence-based support and resources (including connections to local services and groups) that is individualised for each person’s unique circumstance. StandBy is guided by local advisory groups – which includes community stakeholders as well as those with Lived Experience

The Opportunity

The Learning and Development Manager represents the driving force behind the design, development, and implementation of high-quality, evidence-based, and contemporary learning resources tailored to the needs of program staff, participants, the broader community, and external stakeholders.

This role can be fully remote hence all national candidates are welcome to apply.

However, if you are based in Brisbane and/or surroundings, 1-2 days per week can be arranged for you in our Maroochydore office.

The position is accountable and responsible for the design, delivery and enhancement of the learning and development program responsive to the StandBy program’s strategic priorities and the capability needs of the organisation. The position ensures that associated policies, procedures, guides and communications are maintained and aligned to current practice and enable staff effectiveness.

The successful candidate will lead and manage learning and development with the aim of designing and supporting a learning culture across and throughout the StandBy program and providing effective leadership, supervision and planning to deliver high standards of practice capability across the program.

This role will address learning needs and gaps in suicide bereavement and grief whilst ensuring these initiatives align with the organisation’s goals and as well as compliance requirements.

The Learning & Development Manager provides strategic direction for the design of specialised training, e-learning modules, and workshops for priority populations and postvention workforces to enhance the support provided to individuals and communities bereaved by suicide.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field.
  • Or relevant professional certification and experience in related field.

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in learning and development, with a focus on psycho-social support, grief, suicide bereavement, mental health, or related areas.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of the psychological, social, and emotional impacts of suicide bereavement and grief on individuals, families, and communities.
  • Proven understanding of contemporary theories, models, and approaches to suicide bereavement and grief support, including trauma-informed care, resilience-building, and postvention strategies.
  • Demonstrated significant experience in developing, overseeing, and implementing the development of learning initiatives for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience with managing the creation of engaging e-learning modules and learning packages tailored to stakeholders’ needs and compliance requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Proven ability y to lead, coach, motivate, and develop a small team of professional staff to deliver best practice outcomes while fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Outstanding organisational, communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with senior leadership, stakeholders and communities.
  • Ability and desire to represent the program in relevant forums, conferences, and professional networks to maintain currency of knowledge and practices in relation to postvention support and learning and development.

Desirable

  • Master Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessing.
  • Recognition as a Trainer in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
  • Experience in developing e-learning materials using Articulate Rise.
