About the role 

This role is responsible for supporting the development and monitoring of individualised recovery plans to best support consumers reach their recovery goals. The Aboriginal Mental Health Support Worker will also establish links with Aboriginal communities and individuals within the Local Health District and Primary Health Network, identifying barriers and solutions for local Aboriginal individuals and communities. This position will support programs to develop and maintain culturally appropriate and safe policies and practices.

As the Aboriginal Mental Health Support Worker, your role specifically will include:

  • Assist with monitoring consumers and the development of individual recovery plans based on individual recovery goals.
  • Assist with monitoring and reviewing of consumer recovery plans, in partnership with carers, family members, clinicians, and community organisations.
  • Liaise with specialists, including local Aboriginal services and community groups, to ensure consumers receive timely and relevant support, information and referrals.

About You

  • This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People All applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977
  • Provide evidence of Aboriginal identity, and be able to demonstrate ability to work effectively with Aboriginal peoples and communities
  • Demonstrated links with the Aboriginal community.
  • The ability to engage, make and maintain new and existing connections to Aboriginal community.
  • Knowledge of government policies and practices and the ongoing impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people and community.
  • Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health, Peer Work, or equivalent and relevant to the field of work; and experience in the field.

Uniting Community Living Supports (CLS) in Tuggerah Central Coast support those living with severe mental health challenges that impact their daily lives. The program can work with those consumers in the community from the age of 16 to develop a plan that supports you to live and participate in your community, the way you want to.
