Uniting Irwin Hall in Mayfield is a happy and peaceful aged care home just a few kilometres from Newcastle's CBD set across 2 storeys. Your Uniting Homemaker ensures that the community of just 38 residents is thriving and doing things that are meaningful and enjoyable. 

What you’ll be doing in this role

You will be working as a carer as well as assisting the Leisure & Lifestyle Coordinator.  This is a permanent part time role working Wednesday to Sunday, 9am - 3:30pm.

  • Providing opportunities to improve clients’ quality of life through facilitating relationship-enabling environments & activities.
  • Building and delivering an integrated approach for community engagement and inclusion that reflects the unique needs of each client, within and external to the home
  • Establishing relationships and networks within your local community to promote active ageing opportunities
  • Facilitate quality, timely and effective communication maintaining privacy and confidentiality of each client

Qualifications

  • Certificate 4 Leisure and Lifestyle and/or equivalent qualifications and experience desirable but not essential
  • Qualifications in Individual Support or similar essential

Skills & experience

  • Expert understanding of what creates meaningful engagement for clients
  • A sound understanding of community engagement & inclusion
  • Exceptional ability to engage and communicate with a range of stakeholders, and develop partnerships.
  • Great understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and risk management practices
  • Exceptional organisation and time management skills.
  • Ability and willingness to bring new concepts and ideas to the table.

 What we need you to bring

  • A good insight into the health, social or aged care services industries
  • Previous experience in aged or community care or leisure/lifestyle industry
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills and the ability to get along easily with others
  • A gift for working collaboratively with a team and confident making decisions
  • Confident using electronic, communication tools, including documentation systems, email and mobile phone
  • Great organisation and time management skills.
  • Current First Aid certificate
