About the Opportunity

This is a permanent full-time opportunity that will be based in Bourke and will involve regular travel across Northern Far West communities in NSW, with the flexibility to work from home.

This role is responsible for providing a range of therapeutic and group work services to individuals, children, couples and families in and around the Bourke region and is aimed at improving health and wellbeing and an increased capacity to manage and experience relationships positively.

As the Child and Family Counsellor, you will provide a welcoming first point of contact for young people seeking support through community outreach to schools and community services.

You will need to have an in depth understanding of mental health issues young people can experience, as well as the ability to assertively engage with vulnerable young people and their families, including those who may exhibit challenging behaviours. 

About You

  • Qualifications in Psychology or Counselling
    • Diploma level and currently studying towards your qualification accepted
  • Hold a current provisional Drivers Licence or above
  • Ability to outreach to the North-Western Statistical Area of NSW as required
  • Proven ability to be accepted by Aboriginal families and communities in the development and delivery of culturally sensitive interventions.
  • Competence in working with issues of violence.
  • Understanding of Child Protection issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as be able to contribute to the functioning of a team.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and report writing skills.
  • Proven computer skills including word processing, accessing emails and internet and the willingness to be trained in a data collection system
