Join Uniting’s Mission Directorate in a role that is pivotal to executing Uniting’s and the Uniting Church’s strategies in mission and ministry. You will work closely with Presbyteries, Congregations, and community networks, fostering partnerships that are essential to our mission of disrupting entrenched disadvantage. This is a dynamic and visionary role that requires a proactive, community-focused professional ready to make an impact across NSW and ACT.

About the role

Reporting to the Church & Community Collaboration Lead, this role is focused on building and nurturing partnerships between Uniting services and various Uniting Church bodies, including Synod, Presbyteries, and Congregations. You will act as a bridge between these entities, driving collaboration and enabling the church to be an integral part of community development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building and strengthening relationships between Uniting Church and Uniting services to foster opportunities for collaboration and partnerships.
  • Engaging with local communities to understand their needs and integrating this insight into mission activities.
  • Encouraging innovative approaches to collaboration that challenge the status quo, with the aim of achieving Uniting’s mission through community and Church partnerships.
  • Organising and delivering workshops and capacity-building activities to enhance collaboration between Church and community members.
  • Supporting or leading responses to community crises, ensuring Uniting’s resources are mobilised effectively.
  • Providing input on strategic resource use, ensuring effective stewardship of assets.
  • Collaborating with the Church & Community Collaboration Lead and the Mission Directorate to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans.

About you

We are seeking a proactive and innovative specialist with experience in community development and engagement. You’ll have a natural ability to build strong connections across diverse stakeholders, and you’re passionate about making a positive difference in the community.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in community development, social work, or a related field, or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience in community development practices, including community organising and engagement, particularly within faith-based or not-for-profit organisations.
  • Proven ability to facilitate discussions, workshops, and meetings.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel across NSW and ACT, working in both metro and regional settings.
  • An Australian Driver’s Licence and a Working with Children Check.
  • Drivers Licence and access to a vehicle as travel will be required – generous mileage reimbursement

  • Knowledge of the Uniting Church in Australia and its structure.
  • Experience working with youth, multicultural communities, and in future-focused growth opportunities.
  • A background in adult education or community planning processes.
  • A deep understanding of community services and social issues.
