About the Role

This position if a full-time closed period contract (35 hours per week) until 18 November 2022.

This role is responsible for providing assessment, advocacy, in home visits and longer-term casework to families at high risk of having their children removed into care for protective concerns or having their children restored to their care. 

As the Caseworker your role specifically will:

• Provide casework and case management services to families within the ACT child protection system who are at risk of entry into the OOHC or to support the return of children home following a placement in OOHC.
• Provide planning support and structure for the safety of children and young people and immediately take appropriate action in line with agency policies and relevant professional responsibilities where the safety of the child or young person is at risk.
• Assess families’ strength and needs using the NCFAS G+R and T/WB, and other approved assessment tools.
• Assist families to formulate and achieve goals that are child focused and address the safety and well-being of children
• Facilitate and participate in the development and review of the family’s case plan in accordance with the program model timeframes
• Deliver services in a culturally inclusive and respectful manner to Aboriginal families and to families who come from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds including working with other bilingual workers and Interpreter services.
• Administer any outcome measurement tools required by the program and enter data into relevant data bases in a timely and accurate manner.

What you need to succeed

• Relevant tertiary level qualifications including social sciences, welfare or other areas of study relevant to the role.
• Minimum of 2 years experience working with children and families using a strengths-based therapeutic approach.
• Relevant experience working with vulnerable families and demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and the issues facing vulnerable families;
• The ability to actively engage people using a client-centred approach and assess families/individual needs using a strengths-based approach;
• Sound decision making skills about the extent and timeliness of the support required;
• Hold an ACT Working with Vulnerable People Check
• Current driver’s license and willingness to transport families in company vehicles.
