Uniting is looking for a dedicated Senior Social Justice Advocate to join our team, helping us deliver on key advocacy campaigns and foster a more just and inclusive society.

About the role

As the Senior Social Justice Advocate, you will be at the forefront of our advocacy efforts, leading the planning, management, and implementation of campaigns to achieve impactful social justice outcomes. You'll work closely with like-minded organisations, Uniting employees, congregations, and community groups to grow our supporter base and ensure our advocacy campaigns make a difference.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating campaigns that support Uniting’s strategic advocacy initiatives.
  • Engaging and developing campaign supporters through diverse methods, both online and face-to-face.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including Uniting Church members, to mobilise and engage supporters.
  • Guiding campaign effectiveness by implementing and tracking deliverables and key milestones.
  • Developing creative content for digital, social, and media platforms to amplify campaign messages.
  • Producing publications and communications to keep campaign supporters and stakeholders informed.
  • Analysing and reporting on campaign outcomes to review strategies and improve activities.
  • Organising events and activities to support advocacy goals and engage wider audiences.
  • Building and maintaining databases of campaign supporters and producing data reports to inform decision-making.
  • Providing training on policy, advocacy, and campaign strategies to build the capacity of supporters and Uniting staff.
  • Nurturing positive relationships with other agencies and coalition partners.

About you

We’re looking for someone with a demonstrated commitment to social justice, who brings creativity, strategic thinking, and a strong capacity to engage and influence others. You’ll be organised and disciplined, with a talent for communication and the ability to work effectively in a dynamic, complex environment.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in advocacy or campaign coordination.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and managing advocacy campaigns for social change.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with digital tools and social media for advocacy.
  • Ability to work independently within a defined strategic framework.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and grow campaign networks.
  • Passion for social justice and a deep understanding of policy, media, and government-related campaign coordination.

Bonus points for:

  • Experience in event planning and organisation.
  • Web content management and desktop publishing skills (e.g., Canva, Mailchimp, Wordpress).
  • Understanding of the Uniting Church’s ethos and structures.
  • Understanding and competency in community organising and related theories
