About the Organisation

As a program of Upper Murray Family Care, the Hume Riverina Community Legal Service is a non-government, community-managed program offering a range of quality services that are responsive to the varying needs of communities extending from the cities of Albury, Wodonga, Wangaratta and Benalla to townships throughout the Towong, Mansfield, Alpine, Indigo shires, as well as 10 additional LGA's through the Southern Riverina of NSW.

Your Next Opportunity

This opportunity will see you providing holistic legal assistance services including information, referrals, legal advice, ongoing casework; you will also provide family law litigation services as well as duty lawyer services to individuals experiencing or at risk of family violence.

Reporting to the Managing Lawyer, you will also participate in integrated partnership work including providing secondary consultations to both partner organisations and key stakeholders as required and contribute to the development and delivery of legal education/professional development activities.

What You'll Bring to the Team

To be considered for this role, you will need to hold tertiary legal qualifications and be eligible for a practising certificate in Victoria. You will draw on your experience in advice and casework in the areas of family and generalist civil law (e.g. tenancy, fines, consumer, credit and debt, insurance etc) as well as family law and family violence (preferable, otherwise ability to quickly learn essential).

Critical to your success in this position will also be the ability to work collaboratively in an integrated service, collect and analyse data as well as to develop and implement project plans and engage in law reform and advocacy. In addition, you will communicate effectively with ‘at risk' service users with complex needs. As many of our clients may have experienced past trauma and/or suffer from poor mental health and other vulnerabilities, a warm demeanour and the ability to practice empathy in a trauma informed way will be paramount.

Other requirements include:

• A satisfactory Victorian and NSW Working with Children Check
• A satisfactory Police Check
• Current driver's license
