The Koorie Kids Stay at School Program is a trauma-informed initiative designed to support at-risk Aboriginal youth in staying engaged with school and improving their educational outcomes. An Education Support Worker provides one-on-one educational assistance for at least six months, advises schools on individual learning needs, ensures a culturally safe environment, and offers in-home support to foster learning.
The candidate demonstrates a commitment to VACCA’s vision and purpose, with an appreciation of Aboriginal societies, cultures, and contemporary issues. They possess strong educational knowledge, the ability to develop individualised academic plans, and excellent interpersonal communication skills for working with professionals and Aboriginal families. They understand the barriers to education for Aboriginal students and have experience with young people displaying challenging behaviours. They are knowledgeable about trauma-informed practice in educational settings and have excellent time management skills with a commitment to high-quality customer service.
