  • Salary: $97,377 - $101,787 plus superannuation and salary package

The Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA) is an Aboriginal Community-Controlled organisation that supports and advocates for the Aboriginal Community and is the largest organisation of its kind in Australia. About the role

This role will provide Education supports to Aboriginal children and young people in care by utilising a culturally informed and trauma-informed approach and ensure to best support young people to reengage with, attend and thrive in their chosen education setting and address gaps in learning with a focus on literacy and numeracy development.

Tutors will be responsible for providing one-on-one educational assistance and tutoring, advising schools on individual learning needs, and supporting Individual Education Plan, Cultural Support ensures a culturally safe environment and offers additional support to foster learning.

About You

  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
  • A qualified teacher, with a minimum of 2 years classroom experience with children in primary and/or secondary schooling setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement individualised educational plans.
  • Ability to tailor and develop worksheets, workplans and utilisation of educational resources to respond to learning needs
  • Experience engaging with education stakeholders and school supports, collaborating to achieve individual student goals and improve literacy and numeracy
  • Experience working with young people or children exhibiting challenging behaviours, or school disengagement
  • Strong understanding of the education support systems available to young people living in residential care settings and an understanding of strengths-based, trauma informed and therapeutic practice
  • Experience working with individuals and groups and identifying underlying issues, working with conflict, assisting people to communicate safely and effectively, working collaboratively with other services and supports
  • Requirements: Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster dose, as applicable), a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence.
