VAEAI (Victorian Aboriginal Education Association Incorporated) is looking for a person who is passionate about making a difference in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and training who has qualifications and/or experience in public policy (particularly in a government context), has excellent writing and communications skills, is able to work with a range of stakeholders ranging from community members to government officers and is highly collaborative.

VAEAI is the peak body, partnering with the state government to develop and review Aboriginal education and training policies, strategies and plans in Victoria.

The Marrung Aboriginal Education Plan 2016-2026 is the first Aboriginal education plan in Victoria that spans all levels of education. VAEAI is the principal partner in ensuring the successful implementation of the plan.

The Policy Officer is responsible for analysing current and potential government Aboriginal education and training policy and providing high level advice to Senior Managers within VAEAI on the impact on Victorian First Peoples. The role requires working in close consultation with a range of internal and external stakeholders to progress initiatives, responses and funding submissions and includes the provision of high-level Secretariat support to a range of committees, forums and roundtables involved in the implementation of Marrung and Aboriginal affairs more broadly.

As part of the Policy Team in VAEAI, the Policy Officer will make an important contribution to VAEAI's capabilities in providing leadership on policy directions to improve education outcomes for Victorian First Peoples.
