The Victorian Aboriginal Health Service (VAHS) was established in 1973 to address the specific medical needs of Victorian Aboriginal communities. The organisation has expanded steadily over the past 40 years to provide a comprehensive range of medical, dental and social services for our community.

As well as providing a variety of medical services, VAHS is committed to supporting the well-being of the community through contributions to community events and activities. VAHS is also committed to assisting research into the ongoing needs of the community.

About the Opportunity

The role is responsible for actively case managing clients referred to the service, including the provision of intensive support and client referral to identified programs This role also includes participating in community-based programs targeted to supporting positive outcomes for Aboriginal men.

Key Selection Criteria

To be considered for this role you must have the following:

Essential:

  • The capability and engagement to understand the philosophy and principles of Aboriginal Community Control and transforming it into practice.
  • Demonstrated capability to achieve the key responsibilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety and Wellbeing of self and others and Child Safety.
  • The demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi skilled team.
  • Demonstrated high level of energy, enthusiasm, reliability, resilience, and flexibility.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and occupational health and safety.
  • Strong knowledge of local Aboriginal history, community and culture.

Desirable:

  • Excellent case management skills to include advocacy, assessment, development, and implementation of tailored case plans
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Family Violence issues in Victoria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the effect of trans-generational violence and trauma on Aboriginal men and their families.
  • Demonstrated experience in work with Aboriginal Men.
  • Strong communication, advocacy and written skills demonstrate a capacity to negotiate and communicate with a wide range of professionals and individuals.
  • Proven ability to perform duties without direct supervision.
