pOSITION oVERVIEW

Do you want to be part of inspiring individual journeys and change for People with Intellectual Disability (PWID) through ‘I Can Decide’?

‘I Can Decide’ is a creative partnership project between VALID in Victoria and CID (Council for Intellectual Disability) in NSW, empowering people with intellectual disability (PWID) from CALD backgrounds and communities, to make their own decisions.

The three year project will work with PWID, and their families and carers, from three CALD communities in NSW and Victoria, to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary for supported decision making. The Project Lead position will lead the project for VALID in Victoria, working with three CALD communities and individual PWID and supervising other project staff including a Project Officer and two part time Project Workers who are PWID.

‘I Can Decide’ will develop and deliver an innovative, culturally informed package of complementary resources, workshops, practice guidance and peer mentoring groups that focus on the application of supported decision-making principles, processes and practices in action.

ABOUT VALID

VALID is an award-winning organisation at the forefront of advocating for people with a disability in Victoria since 1989. Over that time, we have advocated to empower people with a disability and their families and developed a wide range of training tools, information and resources.

aBOUT THE cOMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT TEAM

The core work of the team is planning and partnering with local communities to design and implement a range of funded projects, initiatives and resources that respond to issues and opportunities identified by people with disability. Ultimately the team works to progress inclusion and develop increased social and economic participation in the wider community.

The team also fosters extensive partnerships and networks with external stakeholders and community spaces such as Neighbourhood Houses, libraries, community centres, levels of government and community and mainstream organisations, as relevant through funded projects.
