VALID is an award-winning organisation at the forefront of advocating for people with a disability in Victoria since 1989. Over that time, we have advocated to empower people with a disability and their families and developed a wide range of training tools, information and resources.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Power Through Knowledge is an exciting and innovative three year ILC partnership project with VALID, the Migrant Resource Centre North West Region and the Ethnic Communities’ Council focusing on people with Intellectual Disability, their families, carers and community leaders from CALD communities. The project aims to increase the skills and knowledge of people with disability, which will include disability rights, building social connection, navigating support services and developing confidence, independence and decision-making skills through the establishment of diverse support groups, facilitated by those with lived experience, across metro Melbourne and regional areas.

There will also be a focus on reducing the ‘stigma’ of disability and associated barriers within CALD communities by engaging community leaders, families and carers in culturally sensitive workshops.
