Overview

The position is a newly created role within the Finance team of VALS.

The Structure of the Finance team is:

The new role of accountant will report directly to the CFO and will have a close working relationship with the Deputy CFO and Payroll Manager.

The role will be responsible for delivering high quality financial and accounting services to VALS in conjunction with the finance team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the CFO and Deputy CFO in the delivery of financial and accounting services to VALS.
  • Preparation of annual statutory accounts, supporting schedules and addressing external audit queries in conjunction with the Deputy CFO.
  • Month end accounting adjustments and close of accounts
  • Preparation of budgets, forecasts and performance reporting
  • Support the payroll function and act as backup to payroll
  • Adhoc financial and management reporting
  • Other duties as required.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:

Essential

  • Must have an accounting degree or equivalent qualification to allows professional membership into CPA Australia or CA Australia.
  • Must have a sound understanding of contemporary accounting practices as they apply to the not-for-profit sector
  • Must have previous relevant experience in working as an accountant and have a sound understanding of Australia Accounting Standards and Practices.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in working for a medium to large size entity.
  • Experience in Statutory reporting
  • Experience in computerised accounting systems.
  • Experience with payroll processing/payroll systems.
