About the opportunity

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Programs Manager role will be involved in developing and then leading project activities for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer care and control program, supporting the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumer and community voices into program work.

In this role, you will work closely with internal stakeholders, particularly Research and Education teams, and external stakeholders, such as the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), Department of Health Victoria, and Cancer Australia, synergising efforts to lead the development and delivery of existing programs while developing new initiatives within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer care and control.

You will enjoy being the key contact to develop culturally appropriate strategies and drive outcomes, navigating complexities and project managing initiatives to ensure positive impact.

Responsibilities:

In project managing existing and new project objectives, key responsibilities include:

  • Project manage existing and new project deliverables and milestones in close collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver agreed project milestones and activities, such as organising project workshops, meetings with external partners, and other project-related activities, according to the agreed budget and timelines.
  • Identify opportunities and grow the VCCC Alliance’s program of work in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cancer Care and Control, aligned with agreed strategic goals.
  • Monitor and proactively initiate communication on progress and issues and assist in maintaining project timelines and scope.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and provide guidance on all community consultation activities to ensure effective and respectful community consultation.
  • Attend and participate in relevant and regular meetings at both VCCC Alliance and VACCHO
  • Coordinate and facilitate workshops, meetings, events, and teleconferences about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander program of work; organise agendas and minutes.
  • Coordinate the inclusion of consumers in program development and throughout the program cycle to leverage valuable perspective and input.

About you:

You will have proven experience in collaborative program management and relationship-building experience.

You will:

  • Have substantial experience working within Aboriginal communities and mainstream health organisations.
  • Proven experience fostering culturally appropriate engagement, advocacy, and awareness-building initiatives.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills: adept at prioritising tasks to meet deadlines and employ project management frameworks to ensure smooth operations.
  • Coordinate change initiatives and community consultations, employing a mix of diverse requirements.
  • Be required to manage sensitive information, remain impartial and outcome-focused, and communicate effectively with all parties.
  • Be proficient in utilising Microsoft Office suite and hybrid meeting technologies and facilitate seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Hold a tertiary qualification and/or have significant experience in health promotion, public health, education, health and/or medical research, community development or a relevant area in social science.
  • Have proven experience in project management and/or demonstrated experience delivering projects that work within tight time frames and budgets.
