Vets Beyond Borders (VBB) is an Australian-based, animal welfare charity which deploys veterinarians and veterinary nurses to animal welfare projects in need of assistance in performing their vital, often challenging, work.
We are seeking applicants for a board vacancy, to be filled at our AGM in November 2024. Prior directorship, experience working with governments and personal involvement in volunteering would all be viewed favourably.
Working with more than 30 Partner Organisations and Governments in Australia, Asia and the Pacific, VBB provides skilled veterinary volunteers where they are most needed. We expect to deploy in excess of 200 volunteers this calendar year.
VBB’s approach to animal welfare is rooted in the principle of “One Health” as we understand the significant impact that animal health has on community health and the environment.
In addition to providing veterinary volunteers to our partner organisations, we deliver free clinical training in regions where it is not readily accessible or affordable. We also maintain a nationwide database of veterinary professionals ready to be deployed during fires, floods, or disease outbreaks in Australia.
We are a small, not-for-profit with one full-time and one casual employee and a hands-on board of directors. Our funding comes from our membership (veterinarians, veterinary nurses and veterinary students) and philanthropic donations. We currently receive no government funding.
VBB meetings are generally held 6-8 times per year, with one face-to-face meeting; all other meetings being held virtually.
Directors are also expected to serve on one or more of the following board subcommittee/s:
