VoiceworksPLUS is an inclusive performing arts group led by professional staff and support workers as part of Vocal Ensemble Voiceworks Inc. (VEV).

We are seeking an experienced and energetic Music Director who enjoys community involvement and who has appropriate professional skills. Playing piano with singing and arranging ability is essential. Flexibility and the ability to adjust to the varying needs and abilities of participants is important. Our VW+ participants respond to people who lead with passion, compassion and a sense of fun. You are also a team player and are able to work with a creative team of various musical and theatre backgrounds, and know how to clearly communicate your vision.

THIS ROLE REQUIRES SOMEONE WHO CAN:

  • Liaise with the VoiceworksPLUS Artistic Director to support the vision and realisation of the repertoire
  • Attend and conduct weekly rehearsals in a team-teaching format
  • Conduct extra rehearsals and performances as required
  • Work with the Artistic Director and staff assistants to choose and arrange repertoire
  • Provide competent keyboard accompaniment for rehearsals and performances
  • Facilitate break-away groups for script, singing and dance during rehearsals
  • Perform in and assist participants for three shows a year (May, Sept and December)
  • Participate in public performances as required.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and an aptitude for working with people who have special needs
  • provide backing tracks and upload to digital platform as required

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Experience in the performing arts and facilitating with large groups
  • Ability to build rapport with participants and guide behaviour
  • Have experience with sound recording
  • Develop songwriting, voice training and choral arrangements
  • Teaching skills and performing arts experience
  • Ability to collaborate creatively with participants, volunteers, support workers and fellow staff
  • Flexibility and a sense of humour
  • A current Working with Children Check
  • Minimum of two COVID 19 vaccinations.
  • Available every Wednesday afternoon/evening at Shenton Park Community Centre approx. 4:15-6:30pm during school terms plus extra hours for dress rehearsals and performances in Term 2, 3 and 4.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA 

  • Experience in the disability sector 
  • Understanding digital production and editing
  • Experience with digital storage platforms
