The VHA is the peak body for the Victorian public health sector, representing public hospitals, community health services, and multi-purpose health services across the state.

As a key advocate and thought leader in healthcare, the VHA plays a pivotal role in shaping policy, influencing change and responding to reform in the Victorian healthcare sector.

The VHA also offers its members tailored professional development programs, networking opportunities and informative events.

Role Description:

The Independent Director will work collaboratively with existing Board members to provide strategic guidance, oversight and governance leadership to the VHA. Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring organisational performance and ensuring regulatory compliance;
  • Bringing objective perspective to Board discussions from areas of expertise to assist with the decision making process;
  • Participating actively in Board and, if appropriate, committee meetings and other relevant activities.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated C-suite experience in one or more of the areas of:
    • Finance & Audit;
    • Risk & Compliance;
    • Legal;
    • Not for Profit & Membership Services;
    • People & Culture; and/or
    • Strategy
  • Strong commercial/business experience and acumen
  • Sound judgement, integrity, accountability and a commitment to ethical conduct
  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute constructively to Board decisions
  • Demonstrated previous Board experience or training in governance
  • Demonstrated organisational transformation experience in governance
  • Candidates should note that experience within the healthcare sector is not essential.
