If so, we invite you to express your interest in being part of our newly formed Refugee and Asylum Seeker (VRAS) Advocacy Committee at the St. Vincent de Paul Society of SA (Vinnies SA). 

About Us: 

At Vinnies SA, we are dedicated to providing support and advocating for the rights of the most vulnerable in our society. Our Refugee and Asylum Seeker Advocacy Committee will help play a critical role in advancing the cause of refugees and asylum seekers in South Australia. 

Key Responsibilities: 

As a volunteer member of the newly formed Refugee and Asylum Seeker Advocacy Committee, you will play a crucial role in making a difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals. 

Your key responsibilities include: 

  • Developing a deep understanding of the refugee and asylum seeker context within which the people we support live.
  • Collaborating with Vinnies SA staff to develop a comprehensive advocacy strategy.
  • Staying informed about relevant legislation, regulations, and policies affecting people seeking asylum and refugees.
  • Gaining insight into the roles various organisations in the sector play in this context.
  • Building relationships with key advocates, influencers, and stakeholders within these organisations, including government bodies, as part of our advocacy strategy.
  • Identifying opportunities for Vinnies SA to implement tangible positive change and advocate effectively for refugees and people seeking asylum.
  • Collaborating with the national Vincentian Refugee Network on coordinated advocacy efforts.
  • Contributing case studies and stories relevant to advocacy work to our publications, including Vinnies Voice, Annual Report, and social media.
  • Working closely with the Vinnies Refugee and Asylum Seeker Service (VRASS) Coordinator to develop the advocacy component of the VRASS Strategic Plan.
  • Attending training and formation sessions to enhance your role and impact.
