About the role

Victoria Legal Aid (VLA) is seeking a seasoned people manager who is a true leader, prioritises psycho-social wellbeing, and adopts a coaching and strengths-based approach to develop their team. Ideal for an ambitious managing lawyer eager to lead a team delivering legal aid to those who need it most across the Gippsland region, this role offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated team at the Gippsland Regional Office.

You will be instrumental in ensuring the effective implementation of VLA's strategic objectives, providing leadership to Deputy Managing Lawyers and Administrative Services Managers to foster their professional growth in a supportive and productive environment. This position requires exceptional soft skills, including excellent communication and high emotional intelligence, essential for effective stakeholder engagement and team management.

Frequent travel to regional office locations to oversee operations is required.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will possess:

• A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, adept at engaging both in person and virtually.
• A collaborative management style, able to foster teamwork and innovation.
• Resilience to handle complex situations and a heavy workload with grace.
• Strong leadership abilities to influence and inspire your team.
• Previous management experience, demonstrating effective team oversight.
