Position overview

“Navigating My Way” is a ground-breaking new project being implemented by VMIAC as part of grant funding received from the Australian Government, represented by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Quality and Safeguards Commission. The project will create accessible resources to assist NDIS participants to navigate their rights, complaints processes and service providers.

The Project Coordinator role has been developed to work alongside VMIAC’s NDIS Lead, to establish this exciting project and facilitate authentic co-design with consumers. The Project Coordinator will manage project implementation, lead consumer and community engagement, provide supervision to the project officer and work alongside the wider VMIAC team to meet deliverables.

The Navigating My Way project compliments VMIAC’s existing advocacy programs which provide timely and expert lived-experience support to NDIS Participants with a psychosocial disability.

THIS IS A LIVED EXPERIENCE, CONSUMER POSITION

Applicants must be people with lived experience of mental health challenges, trauma or emotional distress and/or who have accessed mental health or other related services specifically to support their mental wellbeing.

Applicants must consider themselves to be work ready; be capable of reflecting on how their own lived experience interacts with that of others; and be able of contributing to the development and implementation of collaborative ways of working.

Specific Responsibilities

Professional:

  • Oversee project planning, design and delivery of the project including coordination and design of consultations and the facilitation of an advisory group.
  • Continue to facilitate codesign and advisory groups with a wide range of consumers to finalise tools and resources, including gathering and enacting feedback as required.
  • Oversee the finalisation of web content, factsheets, and videos in collaboration with the Communications lead.
  • Oversee project engagement with external stakeholders (e.g., consultation, related stakeholder agency relationship management)
  • Develop and maintain contractor relationships.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with internal stakeholders (e.g. NDIS, communications, and engagement teams).
  • Oversee quality of resource production, dissemination, and promotion.
  • Schedule and co-facilitate outreach presentations, including sessions for state peaks to facilitate wider reach of resources.
  • Manage Project Officer’s workplan to assist with meeting deliverables of project

  • To actively participate in relevant meetings and consumer forums as required.
  • Actively contribute to Workplace Health and Safety by taking reasonable care for personal health and safety and that of others in the workplace; raising suggestions and concerns as they arise to ensure a safe work environment for employees, consumers and visitors.
  • Work collaboratively as required with other members of the VMIAC team including attending and contributing to scheduled meetings.
  • Complete tasks as assigned and requested by management.

Key Selection Criteria (to be addressed in application)

Essential:

  • Lived experience of mental health challenges, trauma or emotional distress and/or who have accessed mental health or other related services specifically to support their mental well-being.
  • Project management experience, including demonstrated success in planning and implementing projects on time, on budget and in line with project objectives.
  • Sound understanding of the National Disability Insurance Scheme, the Victorian mental health system and the community sector
  • Confidence working and consulting with diverse stakeholders including consumers, carers, families, mental health services, disability supports, homeless support services and mainstream services.
  • Demonstrated experience with authentic codesign processes, as well as a commitment to ensure that co design is respectful and trauma-informed.
  • Excellent organisational skills, with flexibility to prioritise a range of competing demands and work to deadlines.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills and competence in Microsoft Office

Desirable:

  • Experience overseeing the co-production of resources producing written, video content & online material for a range of audiences, while considering accessibility needs.
  • Strong writing skills for project documentation, reporting and communication.

Remuneration and benefits

  • SCHADS Base Salary Level 6 banding ($53.84 /hour - $56.22 /hour) + Super (11.5%)

References and checks, probationary period

  • Preferred candidates are required to complete and/or provide Police and Working with Children checks prior to final confirmation and commencement of employment.
  • Referees are required and will be contacted for short listed applicants
  • The probationary period will be three months

Support and development

VMIAC will provide regular supervision and mentoring to the person in this role. All VMIAC roles include training and development opportunities, which can include the development of leadership and other required skills and attendance at conferences.
