Bring your passion for nature and community learning to the Nature Stewards program by delivering weekly engaging group adult environmental education classes in Geelong.

This is a unique opportunity for a leader with a positive and enthusiastic approach to further the Nature Stewards mission of supporting community to connect with nature through education and volunteering.

In this contract role you’ll teach adults and:

  • Support the wellbeing of community and the natural environment
  • Build confidence and capacity to act for nature
  • Facilitate groups
  • Enliven theory with discussion, activities, and sharing with peers
  • Meet a lovely network of people within local community and environmental sector

Facilitators Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Education training and/or relevant teaching experience
  • A background in environmental science (e.g. ecology, biology, zoology, plant science, geology, physical geography), conservation and land management/natural resource management work, other relevant training
  • Comfort, or willingness to teach via online platforms, should the situation arise
  • Ability to work as a contractor with own ABN
  • Current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC)/willingness to obtain WWCC
  • High degree of organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and think on the fly
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, cloud storage, and Zoom
  • Commitment to the vision and mission of VNPA and the Nature Stewards Program.

Desirable

  • Current first aid training
  • Experience in facilitating adult educational or community programs
  • Experience working with Indigenous programs, organisations and/or community groups
  • Familiarity with community health and wellbeing, and/or social prescribing programs

Required contract hours

This is a contract position, March-June 2025 with the possibility of future contracts dependant on course needs and locations. Approximately 50 hrs per contract.

Each Nature Stewards course runs for 10 sessions. The typical weekly presentation is one three-hour session with an additional 2 paid hours of preparation per session. The Facilitator will be required for one or more of the field sessions (2-4 hours each, maximum of 6 per course). Programs typically run over 10 - 12 weeks (no sessions run on public holidays). Prior to commencing a program, there will be a requirement to attend meetings, induction training, class observation, and class venue induction/s.
