VolunteeringACT is the peak body for volunteering in the Canberra Region, the provider of Community Information Services as well as being a service provider of programs for people experiencing disadvantage and isolation, people with disability, and people needing support for mental wellness. Through our activities we improve inclusivity, enable sustainable volunteering, and create a more resilient Canberra community.

We are looking for an Events Coordinator who loves planning and delivery events that meet the needs of a range of stakeholders. This includes our flagship events including Volunteering Awards- Canberra Region, Volunteering Expo and Volunteering Conference and Seminars. The role is paid at the equivalent of SACS Level 3-4 (dependent on experience) plus superannuation and generous salary sacrifice benefits. The role can be from between 30 hours to full time each week.

Duties of the role include:

  • Collaboratively work with the Marketing, Communications and Events team to deliver high quality, professional events against identified outcomes and objectives, including VolunteeringACT’s flagship events such as the Volunteering Awards, Volunteer Leaders Seminar, and Expo among others.
  • Create and implement event project plans for each flagship event, articulating event activities and deliverables in line with strategic and operational priorities and relevant funding agreements.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships, including with corporate partners, member organisations and other key stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date records of all interactions with external stakeholders, including regular formal and informal feedback and events evaluation.
  • Effectively recruit, screen, train and manage volunteers to meet organisational and event objectives including utilising retention and recognition techniques.
  • Adhere to VolunteeringACT’s policies, procedures, systems, and legislative requirements.
  • Provide input as directed to the team leader to prepare high quality reports for relevant funding bodies, Board of Directors and for the senior leadership team.
  • Identify, research, and recommend new service or product opportunities (eg. events spaces) in line with operational and strategic plans.
  • Contribute to the smooth running and facilitation of both business sites, including working from the Office at City Walk and working shifts at the Community Info Hub.
  • Respond to all general phone, email, and website enquiries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Contribute to organisational priorities including ongoing program alignment and partnering.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience delivering customer focused events.
  • Demonstrated project management knowledge and experience, including the ability to juggle multiple tasks and to time manage to ensure effective delivery of organisation and project objectives.
  • Demonstrated sound problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective networks with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated sound interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment and utilising a broad range of communication approaches to suit audience’s needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Efficient at using IT platforms and databases including maintaining accurate and timely records and producing reports for managers.

Other Requirements

  • This position may require occasional out of hours and weekend work (occasional volunteering expos etc). Time in lieu is available for out of hours events.
  • Current Working with Vulnerable People and national police check, or willingness to obtain both.
