About the role

An opportunity for one (1) x Occupational Health & Safety Consultant (Psychosocial) to be part of our Health and Wellbeing Hub for the Western Region Hub located in Geelong.

The Health and Wellbeing Hubs is the single most significant investment in the health, safety, and wellbeing of Victoria Police employees to prevent and respond to work related injuries. Six multi-disciplinary teams, based in hubs across the state are being established, enhancing employee's mental health, injury prevention, early intervention, and recovery support. This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity to support Victoria Police employees.

Reporting to the Hub Manager, the Occupational Health and Safety Consultant (Psychosocial) will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team providing occupational health and safety advice to Victoria Police employees and management with a particular focus on psychosocial risks and hazards. The position will be responsible for partnering with managers to assist them in meeting their obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 through a coaching and capability development model. This may involve assisting managers to identify psychosocial hazards in their work areas, prepare prevention plans, conduct quality investigations to hazards and incidents, and monitor and review risk controls.

Your duties will include:

• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide subject matter expertise on matters relating to psychosocial occupational health and safety risks and hazards.
• Assist managers to fulfil their obligations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 with particular attention on the proposed psychosocial regulations.
• Provide advice and coaching to managers to uplift their capability in managing psychosocial risks and hazards in the workplace.
• Assist managers to complete workplace occupational health and safety prevention plans, risk assessments, investigations and risk controls.
• Provide managers and employees with information, tools and resources to manage psychosocial risks and hazards in the workplace and ensure the organisation's safety management system is followed.
• Promote a positive safety culture within the organisation and helping managers and employees make psychosocial safety a priority.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and its application into a large or complex organisation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of workplace psychosocial risks and hazards and the prevention, management and review of appropriate controls.
• Experience working closely with managers and leaders to provide advice and coaching to build safety capability.
• Highly developed interpersonal, oral and written skills, including the ability to communicate with and influence at all levels within, and outside the organisation.
• A degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline is required.
• A qualification and/or industry experience working within a mental health discipline is highly desirable.

• One (1) x full-time, ongoing position available.
• This position is located at Geelong Police Headquarters, 1 Malop Street, Geelong.
• This position requires shift work as indicated in the Position Description (as attached to the advertisement).
