Are you an experienced paediatric nurse looking to work in an exciting environment with a passionate child and young person-centred team? We have a new part time position available for an Admissions Nurse position based at Very Special Kids in Malvern.

You will enjoy one of Melbourne’s most unique purpose-built workplaces, while you work side by side with our favourite team member - Jaffa our Therapy Dog.

About Very Special Kids:

At Very Special Kids, we believe that all children and young people have the right to a quality of life, no matter how long or short their life may be. We are a highly respected organisation with circa 100 employees and over 1000 volunteers who provide essential, free-of-charge, palliative care services for children and young people living with a life-liming condition. Very Special Kids provides specialist services for the whole family, including counselling, peer support, bereavement support and respite or end of life care at Victoria’s only hospice for children and young people.

We have an opportunity for a new Admissions Nurse to join our Hospice team on a part time 12 month contract, with flexible rostering arrangements considered.

Working in our hospice, the Admissions Nurse is responsible for:

• Supporting and streamlining the admission and discharge process for children, young people and their families, performing comprehensive nursing assessments and educating families on the services we offer.
• Providing comprehensive, safe, evidence-based practice to facilitate optimal care; performing self-assessment of scope of practice and competence related to assigned responsibilities.
• Working effectively as a hands-on part of a skilled, creative, professional, and compassionate team.
• Ensuring all clinical nursing practice and delivery of care of the shift is consistent with Very Special Kids and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia Standards, NSQHS Standards and accepts responsibility for professional activities that support service delivery and the professional development of self and others.

To be successful in this role you will have:

• A minimum of 3 + years post-graduation Registered Nursing experience
• Paediatric nursing experience within a community, hospital or hospice setting.
• Experience in caring for children and young people with life limiting conditions is highly desirable
