Victorian Trades Hall Council

1 day left to apply

Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is looking for people who want to make a difference.  We are seeking to employ two enthusiastic people early in their union journey to join us as Full-Time Campaign Organisers on a 12-month contract in our Campaigns Team.

DUTIES INCLUDE

Through VTHC you’ll be part of a supportive and fast-paced team, where you will:

  • Campaign to radically improve the lives of working people by supporting volunteers to take action in their workplaces and communities
  • Organise online and offline events including phone banks, campaign training, stunt actions, meetings and conferences
  • Take responsibility for your own field organising ‘patch’ during elections, including; identifying and coaching volunteer leaders, hosting local campaign meetings, and organising doorknocks, street stalls, and train station handouts in your patch
  • Use a campaign database to track our events and volunteer progression on the ‘ladder of engagement’
  • Assisting with other duties as required

This is a dynamic role requiring a lot of energy and passion! In the space of a week, you might find yourself knocking on doors in Frankston to speak with voters about the cost-of-living crisis, dressing up in a hazmat suit to participate in a ‘No Future in Nuclear’ stunt, and making a hundred calls to recruit local activists for election day.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • A passion for social justice and a commitment to trade union values
  • A current valid driver’s license
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in political or community organising
  • An eagerness to work with unions, regional Trades and Labour Councils, and key community allies
  • The ability to manage large supporter lists
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and an ability to build rapport with a variety of people with a wide range of political views
  • A demonstrated capacity to work well with others in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently and manage solo tasks
  • A willingness to work irregular hours and on the weekend
  • A willingness to travel regionally and interstate if required
  • Competent skills in IT and social media

There are no formal education requirements. Even if you only meet some of these requirements but think you’re right for the job and are ready to learn, we're keen to hear from you.

This is a 12 month, full-time contract position set at Level 3 or 4 (approx. $68,000 – $77,000) of our classification structure, dependent on experience.

Victorian Trades Hall has an Enterprise Agreement with a monthly RDO (in recognition of occasional additional hours) and 12% superannuation.
