The Victorian Trades Hall Council (VTHC) is looking for someone who wants to use their accounting background to make a difference.

We are seeking to employ a Finance Manager to work in Carlton. The Finance Manager will be responsible for managing overall financial operations of VTHC and associated entities.

In particular, the role focuses on the maintenance of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payment processing, cash and bank reconciliations and managing the financial reporting processes, including preparation of monthly reports, annual financial statements and financial projections.

DUTIES INCLUDE

At VTHC you will be part of a supportive and fast-paced team, where you will have responsibility for:

  • Ensuring provision of accurate financial reporting on a timely basis including month end, and year end accounting processes
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including tax filings, insurance, workers compensation
  • Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Establishment and management of the financial risk management framework
  • Development and monitoring of performance measures
  • Responsible for and co-ordinate year end accounting processes including preparation of statutory accounts and associated external auditing processes
  • Leading the budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Works with Administration to drive continuous improvement in financial systems, processes and controls to support the company’s growth and enhance financial performance
  • Cash flow, debtors, reconciliation and investment management
  • Assist with general administrative support requirements on an as needs basis
  • Other duties as required.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

  • Relevant qualifications in finance or equivalent experience
  • Understanding and experience in working in a finance team with relevant accounting experience
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet timelines
  • High-level verbal communication skills, including the ability to manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work autonomously, problem-solve, and take initiative in the resolution of project or administrative problems (both systematic and one-off)
  • Proficient in Xero or equivalent accounting packages and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES

  • CPA or CA qualified
  • Experience of working with unions or other community organisations would be an advantage
  • Willingness to work in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
  • A commitment to the values of trade unionism and social justice
  • Capacity to exercise judgment and discretion within a politically sensitive environment
  • Respect for cultural and social diversity within the workforce and the community.

SALARY

The position is based at Trades Hall in Carlton, Victoria, and will report to the Secretary through the Chief of Staff. This role will be paid between Level 8 and 10 of the VTHC Classification Structure ($117,120 and $134,422). Other entitlements include a monthly RDO (in recognition of occasional additional hours) and 12% superannuation.
