The Climate Change & Renewable Energy Project Officer is responsible for creating a climate action plan to tackle climate change while supporting sustainability and the welfare of Wadawurrung Traditional Owners. Key objectives include exploring renewable energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, mitigating climate risks, and promoting sustainability within the organisation. The role will have a sound understanding of the Paleert Tjaara Dja (Wadawurrung Healthy Country Plan), as well as Wadawurrung Country, values, and cultural heritage.

Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) is a Registered Aboriginal Party (RAP) under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006 (Vic) and was established in 1998.

WTOAC is governed by a Board of Directors of Traditional Owners. Each director represents a Family Group of the Wadawurrung People. Its role is to protect and advance the aspirations of Wadawurrung People by managing their cultural heritage rights and interests, as well as supporting them in the achievement of the goals and aspirations as outlined in the Wadawurrung Country Plan.

Key Accountabilities

  • Assess and provide an overview existing climate action strategy, particularly those from other Traditional Owner groups/corporations.
  • Develop a roadmap for adaptation of renewable energy technologies, and opportunities (financial or otherwise) for WTOAC that may come because of the Victoria Government's renewable energy targets.
  • Determine measurable goals, long term outcomes, and actions for Climate Action Strategy linked to items already identified within WTOAC's Paleert Tjaara Dja (Country Plan).
  • Identify possible partnerships for WTOAC to realise the goals and actions set out in the Climate Action Strategy.
  • Identify for further investigations and activities to refine methods for climate action and renewable energies for WTOAC.
  • Quickly address any issues that affect the project and keep your team and direct managers updated.

Selection Criteria

  • Sound knowledge in cultural value matters
  • Ability to identify issues relating to the risk of climate change challenges
  • Experience in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management
  • Strong ability to foster close stakeholder relationships that deliver positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and flexibly, as well as cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to organise work, manage time, determine priorities, be flexible and meet deadlines.
  • Technical experience in all Microsoft office programs
  • Experience in effectively working alongside Aboriginal People
  • Current Victorian Drivers License
