Wallumatta Legal is a low fee, not-for-profit family law firm. We are a social justice project that aims to offer affordable legal advice and representation to the “missing middle” (that is, low to middle income earners).

We are an innovate legal practice where the focus is on client outcomes, producing work of the highest standard, and an excellent team culture.

Founded in 2021 through a partnership between DLA Piper and Macquarie University, we are now operating a full-service family law firm with seven lawyers across New South Wales and Victoria and are looking for an experienced LA to help support the team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role is full-time (permanent), operating on a hybrid model and is based at Macquarie University.

If you have at least two years’ experience in family law, a pragmatic approach, and share our belief that everyone deserves access to justice - regardless of their financial position, background, or any other factor - then Wallumatta Legal might be the firm for you.

You will work closely with our Legal Support Coordinator to support the team through:

• Assisting with client bookings and intake processing
• Responding to client enquiries
• Billing and cost agreement preparation
• File management (using Smokeball)
• Preparing correspondence and legal documents
• Preparing briefs to counsel
• Supervising and directing student interns
• Other administrative support as required by the team.

ABOUT YOU

To be considered for this role you will need to have:

• previous legal assistant experience – ideally in family law
• excellent written and verbal communication skills
• well-developed organisation and time management skills
• strong attention to detail
• a high level of initiative and enthusiasm
• the ability to work both within a team and autonomously; and

• the desire to make a positive impact.
