An exciting opportunity is available at Waltja for an Administration & Accounts Worker. Waltja is an Aboriginal community organisation, providing services across remote central Australian communities. This position works as part of a team of finance workers. You will prepare purchase orders, pay suppliers, book travel, invoice clients, handle cash for and process weekly payroll.

Reports to: Accounts Finance Officer and CEO

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administer the weekly payroll to ensure that employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Process cash and EFTPOS transactions and ensure all floats are reconciled.
  • Manage finance records to satisfy audit, statutory and management requirements.
  • Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.
  • Assist in Human Resources administrative tasks, including maintaining employee records, processing payroll, and coordinating training programs.
  • Manage emergency relief requests and maintain data records.
  • Monitor inventory and procure office, bathroom, and kitchen supplies.
  • Provide guidance to entry-level administration trainees.
  • Maintain internal forms and filing systems.
  • Actively participate in Waltja’s organisational activities and events such as Directors Meetings, AGM and workshops.
  • Be a positive and proactive team member in the office, in workshops and on community visits.
  • Be willing to undertake accredited and on the job training to improve skill and qualifications.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Perform general day-to-day administration and finance tasks.
  • Maintain the accounts payable and accounts receivable systems in order to ensure complete and accurate records.
  • Prepare invoices for payment and follow up on outstanding accounts.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Strong work ethic in a fast-paced small team environment
  • Attention to detail is crucial.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to multitask and thrive under pressure.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Experience with MYOB is advantageous; relevant qualifications in administration/business are a plus.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

  • Award conditions will be offered as part of this contract of employment. The support worker acknowledges and agrees to the following conditions set out in this schedule.
  • Level: SCHADS Award Level 3 to 4 depending on previous experience and qualifications. This position is negotiable 5 days a week, from 30 hours to 38 hours
  • Superannuation: 13.5% for non-smokers, 11.5% for smokers
  • Annual leave: 4 weeks pro rata
  • Personal Leave: 10 days pro rata
  • Ceremonial Leave: Up to 8 weeks leave without pay
  • Compassionate: 3 days paid leave, 3 weeks leave without pay for immediate family
  • Flexible working hours and time in lieu arrangements instead of overtime.
  • Waltja is a smoke free workplace.

Salary Sacrifice will increase your take home pay

Salary Sacrifice is a benefit available to employees in the Community Services sector. It enables employees to reduce their taxable income, by having a proportion of their salary allocated to bills and basic living costs before tax is calculated. Under Legislation there is a capped limit on the amount you can salary package each fringe benefit tax year (1 April to 31 March). For employees who work for a Public Benevolent Institution the capped limit is $15,899.90 ($30,000 grossed up). There are a range of salary packaging options that apply and these should be discussed with Waltja’s finance team.
