All Waltja programs support Aboriginal families living on remote communities to take action on issues affecting their lives, including health, safety, education, financial literacy, family well-being, employment, environment, and maintenance of culture.

Community Development Workers provide skilled and professional support to targeted Aboriginal community clients. This includes one-to-one client support, family meetings, small group/family activities and whole-of-community events, as well as referrals, advocacy and support for clients to access specialised services. All Community Development Workers must provide timely case notes, data entry and activity reports to a high professional standard. Waltja provides Case Management supervision and continuous professional development.

Community Development Workers will be based in Alice Springs with regular travel out to allocated remote communities. Community Development Workers are expected to travel to remote communities up to 4 nights per week, 3 out of 5 weeks. Community Development Workers are mentored by experienced staff while on probation. Professional supervision is provided by the Case Management Consultant.

Waltja has Community Development Field Worker positions available across 3 regions, in the following program areas:

• Community Development Worker – Youth And Families - supporting youth 12-18 years who are experiencing homelessness and associated risks to personal development and well-being, and supporting families to address current or potential mental health problems for children/youth 0-18 years.
• Children And Families Intensive Support – supporting families to grow children up safe and strong, and to address any issues impacting on child/youth well-being.
• Community Development Worker – Financial Literacy – assisting remote community members to gain greater financial literacy and make informed choices about money management, purchases and payments, staying safe from scams.
