Overview of WWAC:

The Wamba Wemba Aboriginal Corporation (WWAC) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation, focused on the preservation, promotion, and revitalisation of Wamba Wemba culture, language, and heritage. WWAC is registered with the Corporations Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Act 2006 (CATSI Act) and is a Registered Aboriginal Party.

The main objectives of the WWAC include:

  • Improving the health and wellbeing of the Wamba Wemba People;
  • Advancing the sovereignty and self-determination of the Wamba Wemba People;
  • Maintaining and strengthening the identity and culture of the Wamba Wemba People;
  • And to protect and maintain all lands claimed and to develop and implement cultural heritage programs.

Job Purpose:

The Administration and Governance Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth running of the organisation's administrative processes, governance structures, and compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks. This includes coordinating the Board, Gnerrick Gnerrick’s and other committees, as well as providing administrative management for the corporation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Governance

  • Organise and coordinate meetings for the board, Gnerrick Gnerrick’s and other governance bodies, including preparing agendas, minutes, actions and reports.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the organisation's risk register to identify potential issues related to governance, compliance, and operations.

2. Administrative Management

  • Manage day-to-day administrative tasks such as correspondence, document management, record-keeping, and filing.
  • Provide administrative support for senior WWAC staff (CEO, Cultural Heritage Officer and Board) ensuring that all members have the resources and information they need to perform their roles effectively.
  • Maintain and coordinate schedules, meetings, and travel arrangements for key members of the organisation, including Gnerrick Gnerrick’s and board members.
  • Monitoring and responding to the WWAC inbox and phone line.

3. Project and Event Support

  • Provide administrative support for cultural heritage and community engagement projects, including organising events, consultations, or workshops.
  • Assist in planning and organising Annual General Meetings and other related meetings.

Key Selection Criteria:

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in an administrative or governance support, including experience in managing office tasks and record-keeping.
  • Experience supporting governance functions, such as preparing board meeting agendas, taking minutes, and managing governance documentation.

Skills, Competencies and Personal Attributes:

  • Ability to work under limited supervision, solve problems and prioritise workload.
  • Accuracy in maintaining records, preparing reports, and managing compliance documents is essential to ensure the integrity of governance processes.
  • Competence in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other administrative software (such as document management systems) is required for day-to-day operations.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying information clearly and respectfully.
  • Act with honesty and transparency in all interactions, upholding the trust of the Wamba Wemba community.
